Year C: C.B Sunday Reading: 4 Sunday of Advent

4th Sunday of Advent. Luke 1 : v 39-44

Mary set out at that time and went as quickly as she could into the hill country to a town in Judah. She went into Zachariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth had heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said ” Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the Mother of my Lord?

From the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.

GUIDELINES TO HELP US TO MEDITATE ON THE PASSAGE SO AS TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE GOD’S PRESENCE AND ACTIVITY IN OUR LIVES AND WORLD TODAY.

(Prepared by Volunteers from the Lectio Centre project)

1. “. Mary went into Zachariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. ” Can you recall a special encounter with a family member or a friend which affirmed and encouraged you so that you were filled ” with joy ” and blessing? Lord in this Christmas season of family get togethers, I pray that every greeting and visit of mine be heartfelt and full of blessing for each other. May the world-wide human family be blessed with joy as we celebrate together the birth “of the Child “Jesus our Lord? Amen.

2.” Blessed art Thou amongst women….”Call to mind the brave women who dedicate themselves to a cause, work selflessly for the benefit of others, women in science and medical research, in religious life, in government, in education, on the missions, women leading charity ventures. Reflect on mothers and guardians who take on the responsibility of parenting. Pray that they recognise in Mary a woman who knows the joys, anxieties and courage of being a mother and look to her as a model of gentle strength. Amen.
