Year C: C.B.Sunday Reading: 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jn 2:1-11 Sun 20th Jan

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So, they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

GUIDELINES TO HELP US TO MEDITATE ON THE PASSAGE SO AS TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE GOD’S PRESENCE AND ACTIVITY IN OUR LIVES AND WORLD TODAY.

(prepared by volunteers from the Lectio Centre project)

“My hour has not yet come “Can you think of a time when you didn’t have a lot of confidence in yourself but someone who knew you well could see your abilities and potential?  Their encouragement challenged you and helped you to step out of your confidence zone and achieve a new goal. We offer a prayer of thanksgiving.

“They have no wine “Can you remember a time when someone you knew was called upon unexpectedly to provide help in an emergency? This person’s calm manner and clear instructions and directions brought great comfort to others. We think of great friends and neighbours who help out at times of bereavement. We pray for members of the police, ambulance and fire services whose job each day is to care for people in distress.

“…and his disciples believed in him “We remember great role models who through the way they lived their lives have encouraged others to follow their example. (Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King) Bring to mind someone who has had a great influence in your life. May we reveal God’s glory in our thoughts and actions towards one another each day
